The children will join their year groups for subjects such as PE, Music, French and Computing. Within class in the afternoons, we will also teach PSHE from our new scheme called Jigsaw on a weekly basis.  Other aspects of learning linked to their individual needs from their EHCPs will also be taught in the afternoons.

Here is an overview of what Resource Base children will be learning this term in their afternoon sessions:-

This will be a study of the History of our local area. We will be focussing on what Runcorn used to be like and particularly looking at the development of Runcorn from the 1800s.

In Science we will be focussing on two areas over the two half terms. We will spend 2 weeks on “Classifying Living Things” and “States of Matter.”

Our RE learning will be based on two units which start with the following questions:-

How special is the relationship Jews have with God?

What is the most significant part of the Nativity story for Christians today?

We will focus on the skills of painting and will be studying the works of LS Lowry in greater detail.

Our Geography unit will be called “Global Caretakers.” In this unit we will be studying what climate is and identifying the different climate zones throughout the World. We will also be looking at the impact of climate change and what measures we can take to slow this down.

In computing lessons the children will be developing their knowledge of the subject by starting with online safety and exploring the Purple Mash scheme.

Children will be designing and making a healthy meal.

The core theme for our Jigsaw PSCHE lessons this half term is “Being Me in My World.”

Uniform / PE Kit

Please ensure that your child's uniform is clearly labelled with their name. PE kits can remain in school for the full half term.

Dinner Money

If you pay for your child's school dinners, please put the money in an envelope labelled with their name. Please provide a snack for your child if they want one for the first few weeks.

All children have Homework Quest to complete. You can find information about this on a separate sheet or the website.

Please read every night with your child and practice their spellings.

If you have any questions regarding your child's learning please contact me. I am available at the end of the school day to answer any questions over the phone or via email.

Thank you for your support,

Miss Waring
