Year 2 Summer term
Welcome to Year 2! I hope you and your children have all had an enjoyable and relaxing May holiday. We have lots of exciting topics planned for this half term, which I am really looking forward to!
In English we will be focusing on a story called 'The Magic Finger' by Roald Dahl. To find out more about our learning in English, click on our English tab.
Our first mathematics strand for this half term will be measurement. The children will look at comparing mass, measuring mass in grams and kilograms, comparing capacity in millilitres and litres and finally looking at temperature. We will then move onto revising our learning on money. To find out more about our Mathematics topics, click on the Mathematics tab.
This half term, the children have some very exciting topics that they will be learning about in their foundation subjects. To find out more about them, click on the Foundation tab.
I hope the children are all eager to come back to school and are ready for a new, exciting half term of learning.

PE: Our PE days are on a Monday mornings and Thursday afternoon for this half term. Please ensure your child has a full PE kit in school at all times.
Homework will be sent home each Wednesday and is to be handed in on the following Monday morning
Reading: All children should be reading at home on a regular basis. We have introduced a Year 2 reading chart in school so that we can see many times the children have read during the week.
The expectatation is that children should read on 3 days each week as a minimum from either their school reading book or a suitable book they have at home. Reading records will be checked daily so that we can update our reading chart throughout the week. Children who read for 3 or more days in the week will entered into a raffle and can win a dip in the prize box.
Spellings: Our weekly spelling test takes place on Monday mornings. Please make sure that your child learns their spellings as these are words which they are expected to spell independently by the end of Year 2.
