Year 2 2021 - 2022

Welcome to Year 2!

A huge welcome back, it has been a pleasure getting to know and teaching all the wonderful children in year 2 the last half term. I am looking forward to seeing you all again as well as about all the fun we will have on the next stage of our learning journey!

Please find below some key information for Year 2 Spring term.

Uniform

Please can you ensure that your child's uniform is clearly labelled with their name. This is a huge help! I will always encourage children to be responsible for their own belongings whilst in school to increase their independence. Please ensure your child is wearing appropriate footwear, which they will be able to learn how to put on independently.

PE kits

Year 2 PE lessons take place on Tuesday and Friday. Please ensure your child has the correct full uniform so they can make the most of their PE lessons. Their PE kits can remain in school for the full half term.  Any child wearing earrings; these ideally will not be worn in PE lessons. This term  we will be exploring ball skills and gymnastics.

Snack

Children can have a healthy snack as part of their break time. Snacks are currently available in school (Toast & Milk) and will cost £2 per week. As a healthy school, we encourage fruit during this time. If your child is bringing in snack money, please ensure it is brought to school on a Monday in a labelled envelope.

Water Bottles

We highly encourage children to bring a bottle of water to school daily to keep them hydrated throughout their lessons. Children will have many opportunities throughout the day to have a drink of water. Please remember that juice is not permitted in water bottles stored in class but may be consumed with their snack at breaktime.

Reading

All reading books and journals need to be in school everyday. Please try and read with your child at least three times a week as this can help improve your child's , spelling, vocabulary, writing and reading. In school we have specialist trained reading assisstants who will listen to the children read in the afternoon.

TT Rockstars

We use TT Rockstars in school ,it is a fun way to practice times tables. Each child has their own login please encourage your child to access this at home.

Homework

Homework for Power English and Maths groups is given out each Friday and is to be completed and handed in by the following Wednesday, in the correct homework book. Children also have a homework quest to complete which is linked to their current topic for that term - this will be an ongoing  piece of work for the children to work on at home. This terms homework quest will be due in on the 8th of April and is available in the files below..

This year is an important year for your child as they progress through their final year of KS1. I am already impressed by their amazing attitudes to learning and how independent they are becoming, and look forward to seeing this continue. If you have any comments or concerns please feel free to speak to me at the end of the day, if you feel a longer meeting is needed please feel free to contact the main office to arrange this.

My email address is ckirby@pfp.theheathfamily.org.uk

I will update the page as the year goes on for key information. I look forward to working with you all this year!

Thank You for your ongoing support,

Miss Kirby
