Year 5 2019 - 2020

Miss Riley

Year 5 class teacher

Welcome to the Year 5 Class Page!

I do hope that you all enjoyed the summer holiday and are ready for a fantastic term of learning.

Autumn term is going to be busy as the children settle back into school. Of an afternoon the children will be exploring a wide range of subject areas. In history/ art and design technology we will be learning all about the different aspects of Anglo-Saxon life. Exploring South America with a focus on Brazil in Geography and investigating the impacts that gravity has on our every day lives.

I have attached the Autumn curriculum newsletter to this page so that you can read about what your child will be learning in the different subjects in Year Five.  I am particularly excited to be working alongside some specialist teachers; Miss Dale (Music), Madame Ormes (French) and Mr Thornley and Miss Thomas (PE) this year and I am sure that the children will enjoy working with these teachers too.

Please do not hesitate to come and speak to me if you have any questions or concerns about your child - I am usually at the door at hometime.

Key information

Reading

All reading books and journals need to be in school every day. Please try to read at least three times a week with your child. Regular reading practice at home can help to improve your child's reading, spelling, vocabulary and writing so it is very important.

Homework

Homework and Spellings will be set every Wednesday by your child's 'Power Teacher' with the expectation that it will be back in school by Monday. Alongside our homework each week, I will be setting a stand-alone homework quest that should be completed over the course of a few weeks - details to follow.

PE

PE kits will need to be in school each Monday and they can be taken home each Friday. PE will take place on a Wednesday and Friday, with Mr Thornly and Miss Thomas from Premier Sports. However, there may be occasions when PE kits are required for other activities/unscheduled events and so it is important that your child's kit is in school every day.
