Miss Riley

Welcome to the Year 5 Class Page!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year.

Spring term is another busy term for year 5, of an afternoon the children withh be exploring a winder range of subjects areas. In Science we will be investigating the properties of different materials and drawing our own conclusion based on these results. In History we will be elpolring British history past 1066 and evaluting the impact this had on modern day living. In Georgraphy we will be using our knowledge of Brazil to explore the Amazon Rainforest.

I have attached the Spring curriculum newsletter to this page so that you can read about what your child will be learning in the different subjects in Year Five.  We will continue to work with specialist teachers from Music, Pe , Dance and French.

Please do not hesitate to come and speak to me if you have any questions or concerns about your child - I am usually at the door at hometime.

Key information

Reading

All reading books and journals need to be in school every day. This term year 5 will start a reading challenge, they will receive a reading passport to fill in as they complete a book. At the end of the term all children who have made significant improvement will be entered into a draw to win a prize (Information will be sent home with the children).

Homework

Homework and Spellings will be set every Wednesday by your child's 'Power Teacher' with the expectation that it will be back in school by Monday. Alongside our homework each week, I will be setting a stand-alone homework quest that should be completed over the course of a few weeks - details to follow.

PE

Year 5 has competed their block of swimming lesson and they all did fantastic. We will now have PE on a Wednesday and Dance on a Thursday. All children need a PE in school every day incase of a timetable change. Starting this term any children who do not bring a PE kit twice in a row with a reason will stay in at play time. In year 5 the children need to take responsibility and ownership for their own belongings and learning and part of this is remembering their kit.
