Year 5
Mrs Bailey
Deputy Head of School and Year 5 class teacher
Welcome to the Year 5 Class Page!
"Learning and growing together!”
I really hope you all had a lovely Christmas break and are ready for the start of 2025 in Year 5!.
Each day, we expect our pupils to show our KIT (Kindness, Integrity and Tenacity) values in all that they do, whilst showing mutual respect and tolerance to one another.
To view our Year 5 curriculum overview, please see the files section at the bottom of this page. This document will outline the topics for each term, for each area of the curriculum.
Key Information
Uniform
Our pupils should arrive at school in full school uniform, including suitable all-black footwear. Please can you ensure that your child's uniform is clearly labelled with their name. We will always encourage children to be responsible for their own belongings whilst in school. PE this half-term is on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Reading
At Palace Fields, we have set the expectation that children read at home every day, as well as having their reading books in school with them every day. Our library is open to the children every break time for them to take books out, and then swap them, once they have finished. Personally, I would love to see the children bringing in their own books so that we can continue to build a positive reading culture in Year 5! The class book we will be reading this half-term is Wolf Brother.
Homework
Homework will be set every Tuesday with the expectation that it will be back in school the following Monday. Alongside our homework each week, I will be setting a stand-alone homework quest that should be completed over the course of a few weeks - details can be found at the bottom of this page, along with our curriculum map!
PE
The children will be developing their knowledge and skills of dance and hockey this half-term. Our PE days will be Monday and Wednesday up until February half-term so can pupils make sure they have their kits in school on these days please.
Water Bottles
We encourage children to bring a labelled reusable bottle of water to school daily to keep them hydrated throughout their lessons. The children will have many opportunities throughout the day to have a drink of water. Please remember that juice is not permitted in water bottles stored in class but may be consumed with their snack at break time and packed lunch at lunchtime.
Upcoming trips/events
Our postponed trip to Chester will now take place on Tuesday 21st January. Any payments made for the original trip will still be valid. Thank you for your understanding of this rearrangement.
Should you have any concerns or queries, please know that I am usually available to talk at home time or you can make contact with me via Seesaw.
Thanks again for your support,
Mrs Bailey
