Year 5

Mrs Bailey

Deputy Head of School and Year 5 class teacher

Welcome to the Year 5 Class Page!

"Learning and growing together!”

I really hope you all had a lovely Break and are ready for the start of your Year 5 journey.

Each day, we expect our pupils to show our KIT (Kindness, Integrity and Tenacity) values in all that they do, whilst showing mutual respect and tolerance to one another.

To view our Year 5 curriculum overview, please see the files section at the bottom of this page. This document will outline the topics for each term, for each area of the curriculum.

Key Information

Our pupil’s should arrive at school in full school uniform, including suitable all-black footwear. Please can you ensure that your child's uniform is clearly labelled with their name. We will always encourage children to be responsible for their own belongings whilst in school. PE this term is on Wednesdays.

Reading

At Palace Fields, we have set the expectation that children are reading at home every day, as well as having their reading books in school with them every day. Our library is open to the children every break time for them to take books out, and then swap them, once they have finished. Personally, I would love to see the children bringing in their own books so that we can continue to build a positive reading culture in Year 5! The class book we will be reading this half term is Letters from the Lighthouse.

Homework

Homework will be set every Thursday with the expectation that it will be back in school the following Tuesday. Alongside our homework each week, I will be setting a stand-alone homework quest that should be completed over the course of a few weeks - details can be found at the bottom of this page, along with our curriculum map!

The children will be developing their knowledge and skills swimming this half term. Children will need to bring their swimming costume/trunks and a towel. For extra-curricular sports clubs, children will need a white top, black/navy shorts and black pumps or trainers.

Snack

Snack is available in school (milk and toast). If your child is having snack, we ask that it is brought in on Monday morning in an envelope with your child's name and the amount clearly shown. For both milk and toast, it is £3.00 for the week (60p per day).

Water Bottles

We encourage children to bring a labelled reusable bottle of water to school daily to keep them hydrated throughout their lessons. The children will have many opportunities throughout the day to have a drink of water. Please remember that juice is not permitted in water bottles stored in class but may be consumed with their snack at break time and packed lunch at lunchtime.
