Welcome to Year 6!
"Learning and growing together!”
Welcome back to another half-term of learning and growing together at Palace Fields Primary School. As the new year continues, I feel so grateful that I am able to continue to facilitate the Year 6 pupils’ learning. Once again, I am very much looking forward to helping the children to grow academically, socially and emotionally over the next coming months. In the weeks leading up to February half-term, plenty of new concepts and content will be introduced, as well as an abundance of memorable learning experiences too.
Each day, we expect our pupils to show our KIT (Kindness, Integrity and Tenacity) values in all that they do, whilst showing mutual respect and tolerance to one another.
To view our Year 6 curriculum overview, please see the files section at the bottom of this page. This document will outline the topics for each term, for each area of the curriculum. In addition to this, you will find key dates for the term, the Year 6 Knowledge Organisers and information about our Spring Homework Quest!
Key Information
Uniform
Our pupils should arrive at school in full school uniform, including suitable all-black footwear. Please ensure that your child's uniform is clearly labelled with their name. We will always encourage children to be responsible for their own belongings while in school.
Reading
At Palace Fields, we have set the expectation that children read at home every day and that they bring their reading books to school with them every day so that we can continue to build a positive reading culture in Year 6. Our library is open to the children each break time for them to take out and, once finished, swap books.
Homework
Year 6: In Year 6 this half-term, homework will be set on a Thursday and will be handed in the following Tuesday. Alongside our homework each week, I will be setting a stand-alone homework quest that should be completed over the course of a few weeks; details can be found at the bottom of this page, along with our curriculum overview!
PE
The children will be developing their knowledge and skills in netball, every Tuesday, and dance, every Thursday this half-term. Children are therefore expected to have full PE kit for every lesson (ie. plain white top - short and long-sleeved, as some of our netball lessons may be taught outside - navy/black shorts or jogging bottoms and trainers/pumps).
Water Bottles
We encourage children to bring a bottle of water to school daily to keep them hydrated throughout their lessons. Children will have many opportunities throughout the day to have a drink of water. Please remember that juice is not permitted in water bottles stored in class but may be consumed with their snack at break time and packed lunch at lunchtime.
